Pre-owned Goyard Belvedere PM crossbody in grey Goyardine canvas

The Pre-Owned Goyard Buying Guide

Goyard is the quietest house in luxury: no advertising, no e-commerce, and a chevron canvas — Goyardine — that insiders recognise instantly. Pre-owned is how most people buy it, and Japan is one of the few markets with real depth, particularly in the Saint Louis tote. This guide covers the models worth hunting, how Goyardine ages, and why authentication matters more here than almost anywhere else.

The icons

Saint Louis. The featherweight reversible tote (PM and GM), Goyardine outside, linen-cotton inside, with a detachable pochette. Black with black trim and black with gold (tan) trim are the classics; the special colours rotate and command premiums. Roll it, pack it, live in it — that is the point of the bag.

Artois. The Saint Louis's structured sibling: zip top, reinforced corners, sturdier base. Buyers who find the Saint Louis too soft land here, and pre-owned prices sit a step above it.

Saïgon and Belvédère. The Saïgon's structured flap bag with wooden batons channels the house's trunk-making past; the Belvédère crossbody is the everyday messenger. Both are less common pre-owned than the totes and worth grabbing in good grades.

Materials and how they age

Goyardine canvas is a linen-cotton blend with a resinous coating, printed (traditionally by hand-guided stencil and screen) with the three-dimensional chevron pattern. It is light and strong, but the print can crack along fold lines and the coating can wear at the base corners — check folds and corners first. Leather trim and handles darken with handling; strap attachments are the stress points. Personalisation — painted stripes and initials — is common on Goyard and permanent: it narrows resale but is part of the house's charm; buy it because you love it.

Authentication markers

Goyard is among the most faked brands in the world, and its details are subtle. The chevron print should be slightly raised and textured to the touch, with the dots and Y-forms registering precisely — flat, glossy prints are a warning. Modern pieces carry a serial number on the pochette's leather tab or interior strap in a specific font. Stitching, edge paint and hardware should all be impeccable for a house at this level. Because copies are so convincing, every Goyard bag at BRAND GET is verified with Entrupy authentication before listing.

Condition checks before you buy

  • Print cracking: fold lines and base corners, where Goyardine flexes most
  • Handles and attachments: darkening, cracks at strap roots
  • Pochette present: the Saint Louis should include its detachable pouch
  • Personalisation: painted initials or stripes — permanent, check the photos
  • Interior: the light linen side stains honestly; heavy staining drops the grade

Our condition rank guide shows how these flaws map to the N–B grades we list.

Price drivers

Colour rules Goyard pricing: the two black classics are the liquid baseline, seasonal and special colours (greens, blues, burgundy) sit above, and personalised pieces sit below unless the monogram happens to be yours. GM vs PM splits by use; condition spread on the canvas print is the main grade lever.
